Briefly describe your professional career, including your employment history and notable accomplishments
I am currently a professor of Art and Design at the University of Delaware. Since 1981, I have been teaching visual communications and book arts along with serving as department advising coordinator. I was chair of the Department of Art, 1992-2001, after which I became Associate Dean in the College of Arts and Sciences, 2001-2002, and subsequently associate director of University Undergraduate Studies, 2002-2009. I directed study abroad programs to Australia, 2002-2010. As a Fulbright Scholar in Hong Kong, 2011-2012, I was associated with City University of Hong Kong. I designed and created a limited-edition hand-bound book, commemorating the Fulbright Hong Kong General Education Project, acquired by five public collections in Hong Kong. I served on the U.S. Peer Review Committee for Fulbright Scholars, 2012-2014.
I attended Penn State Altoona for my freshman and sophomore years before finishing my degree in Graphic Design at University Park. After working in the design field, I returned for my graduate degree, researching the design and production of children’s pop-up and movable books. The following year, I was an instructor of Graphic Design at Penn State. As a book artist, I have exhibited nationally and internationally, with book works included in public and private collections. My book work incorporates letterpress printing and hand binding along with computer design and printing.
